Fethiye and the local area, kmow as the “land of lights” and god’s gift to the Anatolian region, was called telmessos in ancient times. It was among the most importent cities of lycia, one of the oldest Anatolian civilisations, and was situated at the western border of the region ruled by the Carian civilisation.

Telmessos, which was named after the son of the god Apollo, submitted to Persian rule in 547 BC, and entered the Lycian federation during the 5th century BC. The region was then ruled by a succession of invaders and civilisations: Alexander the Great, Ptolemy, the Bergama Kingdom, the Romans, Byzantines the Mente?e governors, and finally came under Ottoman rule in 1424. At that time, the town was know as Me?ri, meaning the far citiy”; was not until 1934, after the formation of the Turkish Republic, that the town was renamed in honour of a Turkish pilot, Fethi Bey who was killed during the war.

The whole area is rich in historical and archaeological treasures,as well as abundant in flora and fauna.A thriving agricultural tradition, with plenty of citrus and yearround vegetable production, runs alongside the more recent, significant development of tourism.Fethiye has around 900 hotel and apartment properties, with a bed capacity of 42,266,end the long, hot and arid summer with short, rainy winters typical of Mediterranean resort.Temperatures in the summer range between 30 – 40 degrees. And best of all,the turquoise seas around Fethiye never drop below 16 degrees in temperature.so swimming is a pleasure even in winter.

Fethiye is just 50km from Dalaman International Airport. The larger cities of Mu?la,Antalya and Burdur are all easily reached by good roads running through the mountain and pine forest ranges which dominate the region. With its heady combination of hidden ancient treasures and folkloric culture, lush pine forests, crystal seas glistening with every shade of blue, and bursting stores of flowers from lilies and mimosa to red bougainvillea, jasmine and honeysuckle,Fethiye, and its naturally hospitable inhabitants, offers a warm welcome to all who come here.
